Lenny Henry surprise Comedy Gold Show at The Old Queen’s Head!

Thursday, 17 June 2010

Last night the punters of Comedy Gold got an extra little something as, Lenny Henry appeared on the bill unannounced.

While a Chris Martin appeared as the compere (not to be confused with the singer of that band we all know and…) the line up soon matched that of a comic relief event.

Another wonderful night from Comedy Gold at The Old Queen’s Head

Last night as, Lenny Henry took the stage, he proved he’s still got it and more. As a packed out Victorian Living Room saw all eyes fixed on the man himself, Lenny Henry unleashed a set of new material with a familiar presence of his personality that all have come to know and love. If you remember Henry for his funny voices, kid like mannerisms, while spiralling into other characters, then you would not have been be disappointed. While morphing into a world of transformations on stage, taking the audience around the globe, Henry added fresh elements, such as the voice of his memory foam mattress which taunts him each night of comical repressed childhood memories, and not to forget the sudden ‘rap’ outbursts.

Henry kept the crowd in stitches throughout, and looked as if he enjoyed this performance as much as the smiling audience.

We’ll have some photos coming very soon from the night, so keep your eyes peeled and all over this blog!

£1000 JACKPOT TO BE WON AT THE OLD QUEEN’S HEAD PUB QUIZ!

Tuesday, 15 June 2010

As we kick into Tuesday, we at The Old Queen’s Head get ready for another one of our infamous pub quizzes!

So cast aside those images of bearded ale drinkers answering questions about The Battle of Hastings and Rod Stewart as we smash the traditional pub quiz while outrageously reworking the format as it’s known.

Compered by The Old Queen’s Heads resident quiz master, Martin Hancock (or spider from corrie as we like to call him), come down to test your wits, knowledge and in some cases throwing arm…

Oh and one more thing – The Jackpot has reached a staggering £1000…. Not bad for a north London boozer aye!

Here’s a couple of ideas on what you could spend the money on…

This kick-ass big screen  TV.

A relaxing leather sofa.

A nice get away by the Red Sea.

33 bungee jumps on a lovely summers day.

One night in the heavenly Ritz hotel.

So before you think about staying in and catching up with whatever Phil’s annoying little boy is up to in Eastenders, have a think about what you could spend £1000 on.

Thomas Tantrum & Lucky Soul Live at Do You DIY? Pt2!

Tuesday, 08 June 2010

Last week saw the successful return of Do You DIY? Which not only boasted a strong Line up including the likes of, Thomas Tantrum, Matthew & The Atlas & Them+Youth, but also had involvement from some of the most respected labels, club nights and blogs around!

Thomas Tantrum showing their support for all things DIY swapping the familiar surroundings of their recent support tour with Band Of Skulls, for the intimate surroundings of The Victorian Living Room.
The band threw themselves into a set showcasing new material from their forthcoming album, with more confidence than ever.

Mixed into the set were also some favourites, including the hit ‘Shake it, Shake it’. As stunning vocalist Megan Thomas and guitarist David Miatt took turns sharing the lines ‘I wanna talk’, Jimmy Shivers owned the stage gripping his bass as an iconic grunge figure. Looking well at home, Dave Wade Brown looked lost in concentration as he pounded the drums.

Also to appear at Do You DIY? in the downstairs setting of The Fireplace were the wonderful and smartly dressed as ever, Lucky Soul.
